Hominy
Hominy is a bulk, high-energy co-product generated during the dry-milling of corn for grits, cornmeal, and flaking products. It is a mixture of all the fractions of the corn kernel that are stripped away when isolating the hard starchy endosperm.
Primary Uses & Target Species
- Poultry: Blended into grower diets, providing both energy from residual starch/fat and natural xanthophyll pigments for yolk coloration.
- Dairy Cattle: Highly valued in lactating dairy cow diets as a high-starch, high-energy supplement that maintains fat test levels without excessive rumen acid production.
- Beef Cattle: Used in finishing rations and feedlot diets as a direct energy replacement for ground shelled corn.
- Swine Feed: Included in grower and finisher pig diets due to its palatability and digestible energy.
